Tadalafil, which is often marketed under the brand name Cialis, is a prescription-only medication indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms. Additionally, tadalafil can be prescribed for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a serious condition characterized by high blood pressure in the vessels that supply blood to the lungs. It works as a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor, which facilitates relaxation of muscles and enhances blood flow within certain areas of the body.
By promoting adequate circulation, tadalafil assists in achieving and maintaining an erection during sexual activity. It is important to note, however, that tadalafil does not provide protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
